What is a heart rhythm disorder?
An arrhythmia, or heart rhythm disorder is a disturbance in the electrical system of the heart which causes it to beat too slow, too fast, or irregularly. This condition affects approximately 10 million patients in the United States. It is a very common condition. Treatments vary for each arrhythmia but they can be potentially curative and such intervention can assist a patient to live a normal life without the fear of having the arrhythmia again.
How do I know if I have an arrhythmia?
Heart rhythm disorders can affect a person of any age. Symptoms vary from people not being able to feel any different to them having palpitations, fluttering sensations, dizziness, fainting, chest pains, and shortness of breath.
ARE THEY DANGEROUS?
This is the biggest question of concern. Any condition that involves the heart is scary. Heart rhythm disorders can range from being not life threatening to potentially lethal. It is important to meet with your healthcare provider to be able to sort out their important distinction.
